NEW MERCIES

"But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is thy faithfulness."
Lamentations 3:21-23 (King James Version)

The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah wrote these words after his beloved city, Jerusalem, had been destroyed and her people either killed, tortured or taken captive by the Babylonians.  A prophet's job, in part, is to communicate the heart (emotions) of God to the people.  And so, Jeremiah shared the hope and love and faithfulness and NEW MERCIES of a God whose "anger is but for a moment...but joy comes with the morning."  Psalm 30:5 (King James Version)

God's people had been taken captive due to their own sin. They were suffering the consequences of bad choices.  But God still wanted them to know that he had NEW MERCIES available every morning for those who would repent and trust him.  And that is still God's message to us today. No matter where you are, what you have done or failed to do, God is waiting for you, with NEW MERCIES every morning!
